Original concept diagram. Specific access depends on phone firmware; the diagram does not demonstrate a tested workaround.
Why can the package name matter?
Android uses the package ID to identify an app. Some phone firmware exposes auxiliary cameras only to certain identities. A community recommendation for Snapcam or Aweme is therefore about access on a named phone/ROM, rather than a different camera sensor.
For example, the OnePlus 8T, 8 Pro and 9R source notes say Snapcam or Aweme is needed for all cameras on stock OxygenOS. That does not establish the same rule on a custom ROM or a newer OnePlus model. Several R15 Samsung entries recommend Ruler or Scan3D; an S24 recommendation cannot be inferred from those older entries.
Google Lens and Iris are source-listed variants where offered. They are not special photographic modes you can add to any historical release. Check the exact artifact list before choosing.
Three common package decisions
The main camera works, other lenses do not
Check the model’s access note
Find the recommendation for your exact model and firmware. Back up settings, install the offered variant and test main, ultrawide and telephoto separately. Camera IDs in an XML must also match.
The same package ID can update or conflict with an existing installation. A different ID may coexist. Export settings before removing an app; do not use random renamed APKs to bypass the conflict.
A different package is not evidence of better pictures. Keep the working APK and XML recorded; change only for a documented access need or installation constraint.
This matrix follows actual source-listed APKs. “Not listed” means no matching artifact is in that release’s inspected download list; explanatory text elsewhere does not create a file.
R8’s Lite files are distinct. Older Samsung-labelled files may use Ruler rather than Scan3D. QCamera3 and Ruler variants appear in their exact-file tables below where offered.
A package variant changes the Android application identity. That can affect installation conflicts and access to auxiliary cameras on certain firmware. A label alone does not prove compatibility or better image quality.
Read the identifier, not just the label
Snapcam uses org.codeaurora.snapcam; Aweme uses com.ss.android.ugc.aweme; Scan3D uses com.samsung.android.scan3d. Google Lens variants commonly use com.google.android.GoogleCameraEng. R18’s Iris file uses com.samsung.android.server.iris. These names do not mean the APK is made by those package-name owners.
The R17 source explains Snapdragon, Samsung and other device workarounds. Its explanatory text mentions QCamera3 and Ruler, but they are absent from its actual download list. The tables below follow the artifacts.
Use a model-specific recommendation
Community indexes document Snapcam or Aweme for OnePlus 8T, 8 Pro and 9R on stock OxygenOS. Some Samsung entries in the R15 index recommend Ruler or Scan3D, while the Realme 9 Pro+ R15 entry mentions Aweme on stock firmware. These scoped notes cannot be applied to every brand or release.
Find your model’s evidence. Changing package ID may require a fresh settings import. Keep an exported backup and test the main lens before the others.
